if you received a windfall…

Posted on | August 18, 2010 | 10 Comments

i received a note with an online soap order the other day.
to the effect that the note-writer had wanted to try my soaps for ever, and she had recently received an inheritance, so now she was buying my soap at last.
i was extraordinarily touched by this; the thought that my soap was on someone’s bucket list, so to speak.
and it made me start to think about what *i* would do if a really large sum of money fell into my lap.

what would you do? feel free to leave a note in the comments.

I did mine, reno’d the house, new bathroom and loo, re did the kitchen, new lounge,(our first ever brand new lounge in 32 years of marriage) tiled some of the floors and now if DS2 would pay me back what he owes me I can take DH on a holiday like he did me when he got his inheritance.

Re your soap, I know I can make it myself BUT yours is just sooooo nice and I will scrimp and save just to get my soaps from you.

I would travel around the world for a year and have a blast. I’d also love to do renos on our house as well.

I would buy a ticket for a trip Down Under and bring an extra suitcase for all the soap I would buy from you!
Greetings from your former Birkenstock connection (aka Baumhouse) in Germany :)

    hey patti,
we sold our business in 2008 (including the company name) coz martin was on the verge of turning into a cork man! he’s back at uni, finishing his degree in psych. and i’m back to being a full time painter (and a soap maker on the side) Life is good :) Hope you don’t mind me mentioning you and your lovely soaps in several of my blog posts. You’re still the No 1 Queen of soaps for me, so many have been inspired by your work! I’m mentioning (and linking you) you in my next post as well, but do let me know if this is not something you want
    Best to ya from Krautland

julia, it is lovely to hear that you guys are enjoying such a change of pace from baumhouse, and a whole new life really!
no, i don’t mind a mention at all….you are too kind.

we were in france earlier this year, and maurice is going back on monday , to paris, with his mum.
he was itching to get to the north of germany though, to look at a u-boat!
maybe next year. he’s obsessed with the things.
if we go to germany at all, we’ll have to catch you for a cup of tea somewhere.
we hang out with soapers everywhere we go….it’s terrific.

I’d resign from my full-time job – actually it’s a dream thing to do and as soon as I get the opportunity, it’s soooooo happening. Pay off the mortgage, and the bills – pack the house up and move to Turkey for a year (and maybe a 3 month trip to Thailand in February when it rains in Turkey). Travel, travel and more travel and we may not ever come home – until the soapy lure catches me that is!!!

splitting the year between turkey and thailand sounds about perfect to me!
