carbon neutral schemes

we were the first soap company in the australasia-pacific region to get carbon neutral status for our manufacturing.
the carbon credit company we used at the time was climate friendly.
i think they are a good company who do good work.
and if a company isn’t sustainable these days, then what hope has it got for the future?
it is time for a renewal with climate friendly, and i have been considering our expenses incurred reforesting our own land in malanda.
to date, we have spent over $40,000 on gardening….labour/plants/watering.
thousands of trees and plants have been put in, the vast majority of them being australian natives, suited to this area in particular.
in the long term, this will have a very positive impact on the local fauna….we are hoping to attract the endangered and rare lumholtz tree kangaroo with our planting efforts.
our carbon neutral status was nowhere near $40,000 to obtain.
nor can i look out my windows and see where that money went.
so, i have decided to pull my official carbon-neutral status and throw that money into our own reforesting fund.
i feel it will go further here….for a start, i’ve got no administration costs!
i invite your comments and thoughts on this.

hi patti,
i have wondered about the particular subject myself and have done a little research. my conclusion is that whilst the big wigs can make a lot of difference, us small fry can too. i reckon that if we all do our bit (and let’s face it – you are doing a hell of a lot by yourself with your plot) then just that actually counts and makes a difference. keeping the local habitat thriving is what it’s all about. if everybody did this, then maybe the world would right itself. i guess education is key and we have the large organisations to give us that. but for the record, i reckon you’re doing a wonderful job with what you have & all your efforts and thoughts are correct. eventually you will see huge results – though you may be a little long in the tooth!

I think that’s awesome, you have to look at the big picture and the bottom line is you are actually doing something to make things better, something tangable that you can see. Good on you!

Patti,
I actually think that is a great idea.
Personally, I know and I’m sure that many of your customers know how dedicated you are to the environment.
While that status is nice, I prefer the habitat rebirth that is going on at your place.
You’re doing something so wonderful and I wish you luck getting that elusive kangaroo to visit!
