kangaroo blue invasion

the lovely folks who own kangaroo blue are visiting australia (kerry is from melbourne originally and has been transplanted to chicago).
they’ve been staying at the beach in cairns and yesterday they drove up to our neck of the woods for the day and we had a fabulous time with them at our place.
kitty took many many photographs of our cats (we took many many photographs of their black velvet princess in chicago last year, so i guess it is some kind of shared compulsion) and all four cats showed off for hours.
their son darien is a cat-appreciator too, and our mob responded enthusiastically to him.
they got to tour our soap workshop, which is looking very scruffy.
we have some casual backpacker labour for a couple of days starting TODAY, so it was literally one of those OMG the cleaner is coming tomorrow situations.
can you say “cobwebs”.
we had lunch and afternoon tea here, then took them up the road to the historic peeramon pub for a real aussie pub dinner.
the menu is excruciatingly basic and unimaginative at the pub, but the food is always fresh and cooked properly by people with clean hands and delivered with a smile and as i get older, those things get increasingly important.
it was just lovely to catch up with these guys, they are good people and full of funny stories. we had a great day and it’s never quite enough time.
they’ll be in town for a few days yet….we are going down to cairns to take them to a proper place for dinner this week, so their idea of far north cuisine isn’t hopelessly skewed by their country pub experiences!
