organic clay

i’ve always wondered how suppliers can list clays as “organic”.
clay isn’t an agricultural product, therefore it isn’t available for organic certification.
today i received some information about this and i’m passing it on.
i use argiles du soleil clays from the town of apt in provence.
this particular brand is recognised by international certification bodies such as ecocert and natures et progres as an accepted organic ingredient.
the clays are sun dried, rather than dried by radiation and they do not come into contact with any plastic or metal.
i’m pretty happy to hear this, because we use a lot of clay in our soap.
a LOT.
i like the australian organic clays as well as the french, not to mention dead sea mud.
i like to mix them for the beautiful colours they bring, not to mention the minerally goodness and cleansing boost to the soaps.
