a walk at lake eacham

lake eacham is just up the road a few kilometres from our place.
it’s a perfectly round, deep, volcanic crater lake with lush rainforest that rises steeply all around it.
the track around is 3 kilometres….perfect for a brisk trot.
there is a fascinating story about the lake eacham rainbow fish here.
of course it is the wet season at this time of the year and there is a whole lot of fruit out there right now, that i wanted to get a look at.
most of it is impossible to see in situ…it’s either high up in the canopy or it’s off the track in impenetrable jungle.
but it’s amazing how much falls onto the path.
i took some photos of those, plus other random growth and fecund jungle abundance that caught my eye.
at various spots along the track today, the sound of cicadas and other insects was so loud that we couldn’t hear each other speak.
we had 1500 metres to go and a monsoonal downpour started up.
we put the camera away and began to move a bit faster, but there was no point, really.
we were absolutely drenched to the skin by the time we got back to the car….but not cold.
