niagara

there really isn’t much to say about niagara.
it’s beyond words really….truly a magnificent sight with an incredible atmosphere and so much interesting history.
we had a really wet day there, which was great because it cut down the crowds a little.
maid of the mist, still chugging away.
i remember going out on her in 1976, but we wore yellow oilskins instead of the disposable rain ponchos:
maurice on the maid of the mist, at the foot of the falls:
i had water on the lens by now, hence the blur.
the boat nosed into position and stopped.
i was putting away my camera and sunglasses, fighting with my poncho and getting saturated.
i looked up to see one side of the falls.
it was incredible.
then i glanced to the right and realised we were right inside the horseshoe and surrounded by a wall of water.
incredibly powerful!

standing here was like standing underwater.
we were drenched in seconds.
i got off one shot then my camera was wet and blurred.
the tunnels to get to this point were kind of alarming….we could feel the pressure of unimaginably huge volumes of water and air being displaced….it vibrated thrummingly right through our bodies and our eardrums.
horseshoe falls from a distance:
the water vapour rose in a thick cloud and spread across the sky for miles.
the real tourist pic….myself and my uncle denis:
