r.i.p. telemachus: best cat ever
Posted on | June 25, 2008 | Comments Off
we have had a truly dreadful few days here.
our beautiful big cat telemachus was accidentally killed last sunday.
we are all very sad and shocked.
he came to us as a ten week old kitten on christmas eve 1996 and immediately began to win friends around our apartment complex, with his charm and open friendliness.
he grew into a big beautiful sable tabby with wonderfully crisp classic markings.
he had gorgeous eyeliner around his lovely big eyes, and a sweet little voice.
prince of the trill and chirrup was telemachus…and he just loved to cuddle.
he’d spring onto us when we were prone and get right onto our chests, and settle down with plenty of purring and kneading.
he’d rise and fall as we breathed in and out and he’d fall fast asleep while we played with his soft ears.
when we moved to the countryside, he was in his element.
he immediately moved outside and took up his headquarters on our soap barn balcony, which is very protected from weather.
he scorned all attempts to get him sleeping in a cosy box and preferred cardboard and newspapers.
he roamed over acres and caught mice and lay in the sunshine and generally had a most wonderful life.
he enjoyed perfect health for his entire life, which we are very grateful for.
we found him in our field.
maurice gently wrapped his little body in white paper and we buried him with many many tears, under his favourite shade tree.
he would lie there and watch us making soap and watch us in the house and watch us driving up the road…..it was the perfect reconnaissance spot.
he would always come running out when we went by, for a pat and a chat, or something to eat.
we’ll plant something nice there and place a stone for him, later.
the eleven years we had him were a time of great change for us.
he saw us through some turbulent times.
the time seemed to pass so slowly while it was happening, but now we see how quickly the years went.
it was all too brief, but it was filled with intense joy.
he brought us so much happiness and so many laughs.
he was such a lovely cat that we had no hesitation in getting another 3 cats.
because of him we will always have room for rspca cats here.
r.i.p. our wonderful telemachus.
oct 17th 1996 – june 22nd 2008.
in our hearts for ever.
