my four blokes soaps made the front page of etsy last week.this is a MAJOR thrill…..there must be a bazillion items listed at etsy, so to be one of the 12 sacred objects featured briefly on the front page, is just almost too much to dare dream for.my thanks to BurgundyDistrict who made it so.

as a soapmaker, i am generally interested in bathing accoutrements. the romans had a wonderful system for cleaning their skin….they would have a session in a hot room at the baths….like a sauna or turkish bath….then they’d be massaged all over with olive oil.then they would be scraped down with a strigil, a sort of [...]

i went over to the soap barn today and there he was….right at home on a saddlebag.probably looking for the keys.

soaps, side A: same soaps, side B. my new moulds provide this branding. re-organised shed. with work still to be done! the cutter collection: prepped oils on the trolley, standing by to make soap; enough for 1500 bars:

i think part of the immense appeal of thailand, for me, personally, is the amount of TEXTURE there.the place is incredibly rich in patterns and layers and contrasts.at every turn, you are stunned by carvings….and painting….and silk textiles….and lush foliage….and inlay work….and mad little shrines…..and hugely ornate ancient temples….and over it all is the beautiful [...]

concrete lace, chiang mai: incredible ornate building that houses the reclining buddha at wat po. every inch is covered by handpainted scenes. golden dragon guarding the steps at a temple in chiang mai: market food, chiang mai: just one small section…of one side…of ONE pillar at wat po. all handpainted, naturally!
