eating like kings in chiang mai

the food has been fantastic, wherever we have ventured.
we’ve had lovely pastries at the bake and bite, just off kotchasarn rd…..excellent coffee at wawee coffee (chiangmai’s answer to starbucks), the outlet on the river ping….really tasty mexican food at art cafe , opposite thapae gate…….scrumptious banana rotis everywhere…….and tonight, a magnificent dinner in the anusarn market.
there was an open kitchen and people running everywhere in a large open-air venue.
dozen of restaurants sit cheek by jowl with dozens of street food sellers.
we got seats at a large table on the corner so we could keep an eye on the throng while we dined.
we ordered:
chang beers
thai fish cakes
duck baked in honey
a whole fish, fried and served with spicy sauce and fried basil
steamed rice
broccoli in oyster sauce
it was fresh and delicious and we ate the whole lot.
the fish was especially divine….we pulled crispy chunks off with our fingers….so gooood.
after a walk, we found we had room for a banana roti, served with condensed milk drizzled over.
we’ve also had chiang mai sausages….very delicious and just full of saturated fats… and a special curry soup they do here, with two kinds of noodles and chicken or pork or beef.

Wow. That sounds incredibly delicious! DH and I hope to start doing some overseas traveling over the next few years. I’d love to go here. I can almost smell it – your descriptions are so vivid.
