booking a train ticket

we rather like train travel around here and get few opportunities to indulge.
a few years ago, we very much enjoyed an overnight train ride from bangkok to chiang mai and we are very keen to do it again next month.
2 problems:
1. everybody likes traveling by train in thailand, so trains book up fast.
2. you have to turn up in person at the train station and queue for ever to buy your tickets.
(i have a story about trying to get train tickets in vietnam, but that’s off topic).
so, for those on a schedule, it does start to seem easier to fly. or you can always sit on a wooden seat for fifteen hours….
however
i went googling and i found this site:
www.seat61.com
o my, what a wealth of info!
and on the thai train pages, are the names of a couple of bangkok travel agencies who will BUY YOUR TRAIN TICKETS FOR YOU!!! and deliver them to your hotel! for a very modest fee! how fabulous is that?
so, i looked up the train number and the dates and sent along my request to:
info@traveller2000.com
and was very well looked after.
we have a first class sleeper which gets into chiang mai at a respectacle hour in the morning…..just in time for breakfast, i’d say……
so, a large thank you to the people who run www.seat61.com!
and also to narissara at traveller2000.

we’ve got a very thrilling trip planned:
hong kong
bangkok
chiang mai
bali
and we’ll be away for 27 days.
i am SO looking forward to 2 weeks of thai massage!
i think a day at the chiang mai thai cookery school is most definitely on the list…..i had a blast at this 6 years ago.
we are splashing out on a very fancy hotel in bangkok and a villa with a private swimming pool in bali and the rest of the time, we’ll just lurk about in little guesthouses.
