christmas beetles

we’ve had the usual swarms of christmas beetles over the past month or so.
Anoplognathus pallidicollis.
they are attracted to the handful of small lights we have on inside in the evenings and of course, it is hot at this time of the year, so they just fly on in through the open windows and doors.
usually we just sweep them out in the morning.
however
tomorrow morning there won’t be as many to sweep.
my savage little silver tabby, miss mousie, has been sitting on my desk beside the computer and crunching up beetles like hard lollies…to my amused disgust.
she has a great technique with them….manages to spike a fang through them before they grip on to her lip….they have barbed sticky legs that give me the absolute heebie-jeebies….and then dispatches them with a few solid crunches.
i guess they are full of protein and other goodies and will do her no harm.
i’m seeing her in a whole new light.
