life without refrigeration

we are living in a foodless twilight zone here, and have been doing so for a few days.
this has to be the worst time of year to have refrigeration problems….not only is it so hot that everything just goes off in five minutes….but the repair guys are all on holiday!
we are scraping by with very basic pasta and fruit and small bottles of milk that get us through a single morning’s ration of coffee.
the moggies are living on dry food and tinned sardines/pilchards/tuna/salmon and are starting to get tetchy and mean about it.
they are accustomed to plenty of fresh kangaroo meat and yummy mixtures of chopped heart/liver.
with any luck the fridge guy will be here in the next two days, and we can go back to the luxury of chilled apples and milk and so on.
we had a lovely new year’s eve…..friends over at lake tinaroo invited us to their bash.
we rode up on our motorbikes and caused a slight stir.
we brought a bottle of champagne which we drank over a couple of hours….met some hilarious people and had a terrific dinner with a LOT of delicious fresh coral trout, personally caught by our host!
we left before midnight as we had a fair way to go and we wanted to avoid the late night drunks hurtling home.
when we got home, we opened another bottle and sat out under a beautiful clear sky and star-gazed.
minutes later, we heard neighbours away down the hill doing the countdown and then about four different lots of fireworks went off in four separate directions!
it looked wonderful from our place!
today we rode the bikes down to cairns and took maurice’s parents out for lunch.
it was really hot….and i didn’t have much sleep last night…..so i took the gillies range at a very leisurely pace indeed.
when we got home, i took a nap for an hour and woke very much refreshed.
we ended our day by cutting the soap we made yesterday.
and of course it is now that time of year when i start to obsess over my new soaps for march 08!
i can think of hardly anything else! i have loads of ideas swirling around in my head and i need to pick some….but which?

what kind of bike do you have?
I own a HD dyna super glide, only weiths 600 lbs and rides like a sports car, fast and sleek. I do not get to ride as much as I would like but do love it. We live in one of the 3 big towns in Nevada but the whole state has only 2 million people so it is pretty safe riding. And the Sierra Nevada Mountains are fun, winding roads and gorgeous views.
Have a happy new year.

and a bummer about the fridge. our washer died last week but you don’t HAVE to have a washer, although we are getting a new one tomorrow.
