birthdays

we’ve had another very busy week around here.
on friday it was the 6th anniversary of our very first soap bar sale!
six years, i can barely believe it.
it is safe to say….we have come a long long way since that morning.
a great big thank you to all of our gorgeous and loyal customers who have supported our work for so long.
we’d both still be working in restaurants, unhappily, if it wasn’t for all of you wonderful people!
we celebrated with a huge slab cake, made of soap of course.
it was layers of blue and white and silver, with lavender buds, and spearmint/orange/ylang ylang/rose geranium/vetiver and a few other essential oils.
we carved off chunks of “cake” for all our favourite customers and gave them a coupon for a cup of java, on the house, with our favourite barista….who happens to operate his stand right opposite us at the market.
we had a few coffees ourselves and were fairly hyper by 2pm.
on sunday it was my birthday and to celebrate, i took the day off.
there was a vague plan to ride motorbikes down the coast to port douglas and have a fancy lunch at zinc….but it was raining when we woke up.
so we shelved that plan and just lay around all day, eating chocolates, talking to the cats and watchings ex and the city dvds.
very low key and just what i wanted.
i received a beautiful large hei-tiki made from NZ greenstone.
i’ve been on the lookout for one for many years and have never found one that “speaks” to me until now.
this one is made from marsden flower greenstone and was carved by charlie wilson of the ngati rangitihi tuhourangi.
i was also lucky enough to get some photos of the work in progress, from slab of greenstone to finished item.
it feels amazing to wear it.
tikis are very powerful personal talismans and greenstone gets infused with the mana of the wearer.
here it is:
christmas looms and i haven’t even organised a smoked ham yet.
slack slack slack and busy busy busy.
