dinner party with animals

this is where we had dinner last night.
look for the building in the tiny circle of cleared land in the rainforest.
this is virgin, untouched, never cleared rainforest…..a hundred acres plus….in tarzali, far north queensland.
there is fabulous five star jungle accommodation there (and we supply the room soaps of course).
fur n feathers
the new managers, sharon and david, kindly asked us out there for dinner.
they cooked up an absolute storm and laid on excellent wines.
but really, it was difficult to compete with the wildlife.
for almost four hours, we watched paddimelons, bandicoots and possums frolic across the lawn (with the aid of spotlights).
they would hop and climb up onto the balcony and take food from our hands (they LOVE sweet potato…but doesn’t everyone?).
sharon and dave have these beasties so tame and happy, that they let us stroke them AND one possum mother let us stroke her baby possum….out of the pouch for the first time.
o that beautiful soft fur……so light and warm and divine.
maurice fed one paddimelon, who actually put her little leathery paws on his hand to steady herself while she delicately took chickpeas from him.
adorable!
this is what she looked like….her baby was thrashing around in her pouch, but we didn’t get a good look at him.
naturally we didn’t take a camera because we aren’t very intelligent after all.
the whole experience was a huge buzz and we hope to go back soon and see if we can FINALLY spot the rare lumholtz tree kangaroo.
we’ve bribed our way back, with promises to cook next time!
