soapmakers in sydney
Posted on | September 20, 2007 | 13 Comments
we’ve just returned from an absolutely exhausting and exhilarating 5 days in old sydney town.
we went to show our soap at the gift fair: a truly enormous event with a stunning array of gifty stuff.
i was disappointed to see very little “australian-made” stuff….but what i did see was fantastic and i bought a set of nesting bowls from a NSW ceramicist (organic shapes and delightful muted-but-rich colours) and a heap of scented candles from ecoya candles (both australian-made).
we had an overwhelming response to our very simple, even stark, stand, and our product and picked up many dozens of new accounts.
actually, we may have overdone it, slightly!
our usual 24 hour turnaround time has just blown out to 1 month, while i sort out all these new accounts and crank up production.
the four days was a whirlwind of new faces and fast paperwork and i’ve talked my lips completely off.
acdtually, it was just like a great big market, but with fifty thousand dollar displays.

OMG Patti, your display is neither simple nor stark. It is absolutely gorgeous and well presented.
I can see why you got many new accounts. How the hay can you manage as you sound like you work very hard already.
It was neat to hear all about this event, thanks for sharing.

Forgot to ask you one thing… What’s in the metalbox??
September 20th, 2007 @ 6:34 PM
hi eva, and thanks for checking out my blog!
the metal box is a hand beaten copper turkish bathing box.
it has holes in the bottom, for draining.
it is for keeping your soap and sponge inside, when you are walking through the streets to the hammam!
i keep my business cards in it.

At first glance, your table looks like a high end bakery display. I thought to myself, “Don’t those look yummy!” And then I realized it was soap. Which was even better! : )
Lovely display. Great sign. Cute DH!

hi april! we fooled quite a few people with the old “cake display”.
maurice would go off to get coffee and heard people still talking about the display all the way up the end of the exhibition hall. they all initially thought cake or fudge!
and yeah, he is pretty cute.

Patti… It’s a simply wonderful display! In a sea of professional hoity toidy displays I’d be drawn to yours in an instant. Your soap looks delish and I love your the juxtaposition of creamy soap on smooth wood. You always shine with original and unique ideas. Bravo!

Patti – Your display is simply breathtaking. Well done!
(my own displays need some sprucing, and simpler would be great. Time to put on my thinking cap!) And your soaps are gorgeous, as always.

rach, someone gave me one from turkey a couple years ago…..and then i found the big copper one on ebay, after searching for a while, and picked it up for an old song.

WOW Patti, I found this link on the soapdish.. and your presentation is lovely..
I have a show next week and really wanted to present my soaps similar to how youve done.. but it seems everyone is trying to get me to stick them in boxes.
Question.. after the customer buys the soap do you wrap it then with a sticker or do you place in a bag?
Excellent work!!
