excellent telstra service

i know this may seem incredible, but i experienced wonderful service from the national phone carrier yesterday.
i rang them about a fault in the line.
i was on hold for less than a minute.
i spoke to a guy for less than a minute.
he told me he would test the line and i would be called back.
in less than a minute, the phone rang…..it was another technician, who agreed there was a fault in my line and someone would be there in 48 hours to fix it.
in the meantime, would i like my calls diverted to another number, at no charge to anyone?
yes please and i nominated the biz number.
in less than two minutes, my mobile rang and it was someone who had called my home number and been seamlessly redirected to my biz number.
now that’s what i call service!
even the 48 hour delay for on-site work didn’t faze me.
we live in a fairly remote part of the world.
now here is the funny part.
i’ve put off making that phone call for MONTHS because i’ve had it drummed into me how dreadful this company is to deal with.
instead i searched endlessly for an in-house solution.
i plugged phones into different sockets and in different combinations.
i moved things around.
i fiddled with handsets.
and we endured a bad hissing noise for, o, i’d say maybe a year?
all i know is that suddenly i was shouting down the phone like a crotchety ninety year old with failed hearing: could you speak UP please, i cannot hear you very well.
those days are behind us now.
today i am looking forward to crystal clear reception, where i can hear a pin drop on the other end and every shaded nuance of my caller’s voices.
perhaps we will even be able to understand the messages left on the answering machine!
it’s like a whole new world.
