rainy days and soap and stuff

in spite of quite wet weather this late in the year, we had two excellent markets in a row.
another stall holder (she sells the cutest hand-painted umbrellas and gumboots! big happy flowers and rainbows), heading south for tomorrow’s mission beach market was kind enough to call me and let me know it was POURING wet down there…..so we will save ourselves a long drive tomorrow.
in any case, there is a lot of soap to be made and having a whole extra day in which to do it, is always welcome.
i came home to an exciting message on my phone: the motorcycle seller was returning my call of several days ago.
she have been out of town and her husband was suddenly called to the USA.
when he gets back, jun 12th, he will call me regarding the motorbike.
he is an aircraft engineer…..you can imagine the meticulously-kept bike!
i am 99% sure we will buy this bike.
i have two decisions to make.
1. will i fly to brisbane, buy the bike and ride it 1793 km home?
OR
will i get it trucked north?
and 2: when it gets here, do i want the black one, or the red one?
i am sooooo tempted to take four days off and go collect the machine personally.
the one thing holding me back is the weather.
if it is chilly….or wet….it will be three days of misery, riding the brute back.
i’m not interested in actual, real suffering.
i’ve done all that on motorbikes and it is wretched.
i went for a brief ride today and got DRENCHED and cold…..it brought it all back.
i was lucky enough to be only fifteen minutes from a hot shower, but it was still a devilish fifteen minutes.
i made a new soap a while ago and put it out for the first time today and it sold like the proverbial hotcakes.
a very plain white soap with some tea leaves in it and a magnificent blend of certified organic oils of ylang ylang/palmarosa/mandarin/lavender/geranium with regular oils of rose geranium and sweet orange.
the scent is holding extremely well.
those organic oils are Quality, with a capital Q.
we celebrated maurice’s birthday this weekend.
too many markets going on to go out, so it was a big night in with a movie (amelie….which was just delightfully charming and we both enjoyed it so much) and some fresh agnoletti stuffed with ricotta and spinach and a sauce made from everything fresh i had on hand: mushrooms, garlic, capsicums, scallions, tomatoes, spinach, rocket, basil, parsley, all simmered with a good glopping of red wine and seasoned liberally.
topped the whole lot with freshly grated pecorino and fell.upon.it.
i think i am in a mood for roasted beetroot tomorrow, with a balsamic glaze and a tiny crumbling of gorgonzola on top.
the granny smiths are divine this year: large, crisp and mouthwateringly tart……i think it’s time to do something with some of those; if we can only stop eating them straight from the fridge.

Bandi – Scott and I adore Amelie. It’s one of our all time favorites.
My vote is the red bike. Pink is a diluted shade of red and you *know* how much I like pink

d0t…come up for a meal ANYTIME!!
jen…someone gave me a cpy of amelie on dvd 18 months ago and i just never got around to it.
i knew it was going to be special and i wanted to be in the right mood for it.
and we were and it was.
as for the red bike….you KNOW i am already leaning in that direction!
i was polishing the black bike yesterday and the husband asks what am i doing? and i said, i’m getting it all detailed for it’s new owner!
and yanno, i have also been considering a hot pink metallic custom paint job……

Red *is* irresistible. I have a red car, red kitchen, red shoes, red accents throughout house, red purse, red water bottle, red shirts, red pants…and lets not even begin on pink.
You have got to look incredibly gorgeous on that bike. Seriously jealous and told hubby I’m jonesing for a bike someday
. Gotta prep him in advance…
