riding, riding, riding….

my brother and i have been spending all of our time cruising around on the motorbikes.
really, we are having FAR TOO MUCH FUN.

today, we set off at 9.30am and ripped off down the palmerston highway, to south johnston and innisfail.
the palmerston highway is an absolute pleasure-ride….big sweeping curves of highway, with a 10% incline in places, through lush rainforest and then sugarcane and banana farms.
just the most gorgeous feeling to sweep down those through those hills and trees.

liam has friends with a darling little cafe (off the rails cafe!) in south johnston, so we stopped in there for a breakfast of noodles and egg and tofu and greens and tom yum paste and a lot of great ethiopian coffee and chatted with the gorgeous people….then we headed on to innisfail, to olivieri’s delicatessan, where they sell the most delicious german mustard i have ever flopped a lip over.
i stocked up on the mustard and threw in some dark chocolate-covered marzipan, just for good measure.

leaving innisfail, we decided to travel up the coast towards cairns, rather than head back up the palmerston….there was a lot of dark, low, brooding-looking cloud that way and we are truly fair-weather motorcyclists.
we caught a little rain on the coast, but nothing that didn’t dry out after thirty minutes riding.
at gordonvale, we split….liam went on to visit friends in town and i continued up the gillies range to home.
i stopped at the lookout halfway up and enjoyed the view….something we never do in the car!…and had a bottle of water.
riding around on a bike makes you feel like it’s the first time you’ve ever been to these places!
i did around 200 kilometres and was out just long enough for maurice to start leaving phone messages…..he figured we were either having a really good time….or a really baaaaaaaaad time.
bad times on motorbikes are VERY bad times, we won’t dwell on it.

i am still hunting for a motorbike for maurice….the people with the lovely red shadow are unreachable right now.
so frustrating, because the price is right and the bike looks immaculate.

i have a big soap order zooming into my inbox tomorrow and i’ve cleared the decks for action on that, starting tomorrow.
the bike-riding is going to have to wait a few days!
i can’t stand it!
