boots

one of the things you really cannot buy in the tropics are leather boots.
i mean, they have them around, but really, there is no selection to speak of.
they just aren’t things that tropics-dwellers generally require in their wardrobes.

in my mature years, i feel the need to wear leather boots whilst riding the motorbike…slip-on shoes, that never worried me before, suddenly feel so flimsy and damned dangerous.
so, i went looking online.
motorcycling boots are just so heavy and horrid-looking.
i knew they simply would not do.
eventually, i found the cutest boots in the world, at shepler’s.
ariat fatbaby and pro-baby boots.
i got a red pair and a black/ivory pair.
they are a bit western cowgirl-ish, without heels, tassels, spurs.
crepe soles (perfect for the bike), interesting leather textures (patent croc with nubuck) and very nice decorative stitching and trims.

they arrived within what seemed like merely hours after i placed my order.
seriously, less than a week!
and now i have a new problem.
my left ankle is slightly enlarged and i simply cannot jam that thing down into my new boots!
my right foot slips in there like an eel…..but the left foot isn’t budging.
obviously, i need to have a zipper put in the side of the boot, but who on earth does work like that anymore?

AMAZINGLY enough, i found someone, LOCAL, who does do work like that anymore.
they said they do it all the time.
fortunately, there is a seam right where i want that zipper.

my husband has gone to town to deliver soap and drop off my boots at the leather people’s place.
i can’t wait!

AND
i have spotted a beautiful red honda shadow, only 6000k and last year’s model, very reasonably priced…..i think i need to get it for the husband for his birthday.

ssssshhhhhh, it’s a surprise.

i keep thinking back to 1995 when we lived in adelaide, south australia, and the amazing fun we used to have tootling around on our motorbikes together.
