thought for the day

i was in the new wine supermarket in cairns recently…busily stocking up on a few dozen of richmond grove “weathervane” cab sav merlot (unexpectedly smooth and delicious and very reasonably priced)….when i spotted some beers from the favourite brewery of my far-flung youth: mac’s brewery in new zealand.
first time i have seen them in australia and of course i bought a few, because i know other ex-pat beer drinkers who would be as equally excited to see them.
they’ve trendified their labelling and packaging, i must say.
they brew without chemicals, so they aren’t a huge big brewery.
and the beer is lovely.
anyway….on their packaging, they’ve written an amusing blurb about not drinking too much and they conclude with:
quantity is a destination; quality is a journey.
ooooo, i think that is so tremendously profound and something to consider in all aspects of life.
don’t you too?

That *is* very profound- certainly something to keep in mind.
However, it doesn’t answer my burning question. Which is: what did you cook on Tuesday night?

tuesday night crept up on me.
it was all a bit of a rush and at one point, late in the afternoon, i considered taking everyone out for chinese!
at the last minute, i geared up and rode the motorbike into the village (any excuse will do) and picked up cabbage, rib fillets and really nice little washed potatoes.
i made a very basic coleslaw; baked the little spuds in a touch of oil and salt, until they were brown and crispy on the outside, and we BBQed the steaks….just with salt and pepper.
that was pretty much it….with some german mustard for the steaks (we get this amazing mustard at a deli in innisfail, an hour from here).
you’ve never seen people eat so much potato, steak and coleslaw in your life.
i thought OMG that’s too much coleslaw but we arm-wrestled for the last spoonful.
it was just that kind of night.
tonight, we had hokkien noodles, with a red curry coconut sauce, pork strips, carrot/onion/red & green capsicums, a LOT of coriander and fresh lime juice and it was simple and fast and very tasty.
i love those hokkien noodles you can buy, that don’t need refrigeration.
they just sit in the pantry.
amazing, really.

Oooooh, steak and coleslaw and potatoes! Now THAT is an excellent dinner. The Red Curry sounds delicious too- I don’t think I’ve ever done a curry stir-fry. I am such a ho for coriander. Noting it down
Those noodles have always boggled me. I try not to think about it too much!
