reader comments and bike ramblings

blogging is a new exercise for me.
i’m never sure if i am writing for an audience or not.
primarily, i guess i’m writing for myself.
a blog of this nature is a very personal and self-indulgent, fun thing to do.
i sucked at keeping a journal…..possibly because my exhibitionist nature knew that nobody would be reading the journal apart from me.
and i didn’t need to read it…..i was LIVING it. (to steal a line from my husband).
SO
when i get here to make a blog entry and i find that people have been, read and actually left comments….well it makes my day, let me tell you.
so, thank you all from the bottom of my heart
and then it makes me think, OMG, i better blog something worth READING for these lovely people.
quick! do something thrilling!
o the pressure!!

yesterday, i took the bike out for a spin.
husband followed in car….i want to spend a few weeks getting used to the handling before i let him get on the back.
he is being very patient about that.
there is a lot of gravel around here and i haaaaaaaaaaaaate riding in gravel.
i have to get used to it. and to the weight of the bike. and so on.

i was a vision to behold, in teal leather and purple nubuck boots with flowers embroidered all over them; berry-coloured pants; a purple silk sweater; a berry-coloured scarf with a print to match the boots (how fashion-victim is that?); and for the piece de resistance, a furry jacket with white tiger stripes.
and let me tell you, every motorcyclist going in the other direction gave me an appreciative nod.
i’ve never felt so hot and stylin’ IN MY LIFE.

all the usual doom-mongers in my life have checked in to tell me how i’m gonna crash and die or at least be crippled for life.
i’d just love to see some stats on women biker accidents; i really would.
in my 9 years previous biking history, i came off exactly one time and that was a sort of clumsy, late night thing; hitting the tray of a truck who stopped abruptly at an orange light, where i just assumed he would carry on through.
it cured me of assuming anything about motorists, ever again.
and i put in a lot of miles on my various bikes.
they were my sole transportation.
i rode from cairns to adelaide on a 250 virago one time. and all over victoria.
heck, i rode over the bombay hills, south of auckland, in the winter, on a 100cc bike. NOT a scooter puh-leeeeze. just a very tiny honda.

dammit, i think it’s raining.
i was planning a ride.
if it clears at all, i am GONE.
