smartphones

a few years ago, i owned no technology more advanced than a pencil and a piece of paper.
my good friend, damian, gave me a mobile phone he was finished with (due to an upgrade) on the grounds that nobody could really run a serious business without a mobile phone.
o, how i resisted and kicked and struggled.
o, how i ranted on in my neo-luddite manner: look at shakespeare! look at mozart! look at henry ford! did they need mobile phones? noooooo. did they need computers? nooooooo.
o, the scorn i poured forth.
still, the seed was sown and for quite a while i enjoyed damian’s cast-off phones as he upgraded every year or so.
i was upgrading too, just with a bit of a lag.
fast-forward to three weeks ago.
damian is back in town and coming for dinner.
he phones me to confirm and says o by the way….i’ve got a new phone.
so do i, says i.
he arrives with his smartphone and we compare them.
it turns out we have independently purchased virtually the same model….
yes, the young grasshopper has finally caught up with the techno-master. LOL.
what this phone won’t do, you don’t need to have done.
we wonder how we ever managed without one.
and the purpose of this whole rave is to share a page for similarly obsessed techno-freaks out there:
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/smartphones?view=full
you can subscribe to a live feed on that page, so you don’t miss a trick.
happy chattin’ everybody!
o and what do i have?
a HP ipaq 6828.
honestly, you can run an empire from one of these things. i can even blog from there.
